Here's my list of my Top 40 essential AOR/melodic hard rock CDs. I feel that any comprehensive AOR/melodic hard rock collector should own these discs. They have been selected based on their start-to-finish consistency, plus the stellar heights they reach on certain key tracks. Although there have been many CDs with great AOR moments (Frontiers by Journey or Too Hot To Sleep by Survivor to give a couple examples), their lack of consistency kept them off my elite list. As well, highly consistent discs without any true standouts (i.e. Power by Atlantic) didn't make the cut either.
